HOW MUCH MEAT WILL MY DEER YIELD?

How much deer meat will you get back after processing?  Usually, a little more than half the animal’s dressed weight.  This can vary significantly depending on where the deer is shot and how much damage is done.

  • The hide, head, feet, and tail total 21 lbs.  These are discarded.
  • There are 23 lbs. of Bone and Scrap.  These too are discarded, leaving 56 lbs. of deer.
  • The legs total 24 lbs. (bone in)
  • There are 9 lbs. of shoulder meat (bone in)
  • The loins total 6 lbs. (boneless)
  • The tenderloin weighs 1 lb.
  • There are 16 lbs. of trim, which includes neck and rib meat.
